THINKING OF BECOMING A HOST FAMILY?

Scruffs also provides a dog sitting service. Our aim is to offer an alternative to boarding kennels, making sure that a much-loved pet is surrounded by creature comforts while the owners relax on holiday, knowing that their dog is in good hands.

We are currently looking for dog lovers who would enjoy welcoming these pets into their own home.

Do I get paid for becoming a host?

Our hosts will get paid £10 per day for each dog they look after. That’s £70 a week or £300 a month for looking after one dog.

As a host, you can choose to have a dog for a week or two or more, or even just a day or two. You may also opt to have more than one dog if it is practical for you – or, of course, if the demand is there. Obviously, the summer and the school holidays tend to be our busiest times.

Who would be the ideal host family?

The short answer to this is that it all depends. For example, owners of an elderly pet may request that he or she be placed with a retired couple, who may have a quieter home and enjoy life at a slower pace. Others, with more energetic breeds, may require their dog to be placed with a young and active family, who love the great outdoors. You may have your own requirements on top of this too, which is no problem, as the most important thing of all is simply to love dogs and everything about them. You will see dog sitting not only as a source of income, but as a source of enjoyment too. The great thing for you is that you will get all the benefits of having a pet without the long-term commitment or expense: the dog’s family will be supplying bedding, food, a lead and toys.

Once drop off and pick up times have been arranged, all you have to do is board, feed and walk the dog twice a day. Some dogs may also have particular needs, such as not being allowed off the lead or needing to be given medicine every day. But, above all, you need to be happy to give the dog some attention and fuss.

Matching dogs with hosts

Please get in touch with us in order to arrange a visit. We can then make notes about what may work for you in terms of looking after a dog (or two). Our customers are also required to fill in a form requesting the details we need to match them with a suitable host. You may get your first dog within days or, if it’s a quiet period, it could take a bit longer.

Why work with Scruffs?

We at Scruffs invest a lot in finding clients and we have insurance for all of our host families. We want to make this as good an experience as possible for everyone – you, the dogs and the owners – and we will support you if you need anything.
